A Thanksgiving Reflection by the late Ruby Mae Miller
Re-Submitted by Tekella Foster
While recently going through my late mother’s belongings, I discovered this article she wrote for Thanksgiving in 2006. It was a beautiful reminder of her faith, generosity, and the way she lived her life. This Thanksgiving, I wanted to share her message again—a timeless reflection on love, unity, and thankfulness. I hope it touches your heart as deeply as it did mine.
Let Us be Thankful
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Thanksgiving is a very special holiday to me. I take time out to thank God and be thankful for bringing me through the beginning of the year until now, and that’s enough to thank God for. We should be grateful that God has kept us through some storms and brought us out of them.
On this Thanksgiving Day, take a moment to ask yourself whether your words have been uplifting to others or discouraging to them. Thanksgiving isn’t just a holiday. It’s an attitude, a way of life, something from the heart.
Try speaking a cheerful word and try Thanksgiving when families come together in love and unity, fellowship with one another, and thanking God for the homecoming. It’s a blessing. Giving to others is a good way to express thanks to God. God’s blessings will allow you to be generous to others.
When you give to others through God, it is because of what God has given you. No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks. If you love to share, prepare a meal for your neighbor who isn’t able to fix one for themselves. Go and visit the sick or read a scripture to them, and you can always tell them about God and how thankful you are for His blessings. If you can help someone along the way, then you know your living was not in vain.
God is love, and Christian, we have got to love. Whatever you have, God gave it to you, and whatever you give away, He did that too. Make a new start this Thanksgiving.
Give a little, cook a meal, and share your time. There are so many lonely people who want to see you. They need you and they are members of your own families. Step out on faith and trust God.
Do you know Him well? There is no way you will go wrong. Children, keep up those grades in school. Please pray for our soldiers and their families. They need our prayers. Remember the homeless and the less fortunate ones. They need our prayer also.
Until we meet again, trust God and be thankful. Have a blessed Thanksgiving.
Amen, amen.
