4-H Fishing Tournament upcoming in Eupora

The Mississippi State University Extension Service will sponsor a Mississippi 4-H Fishing Tournament at Whites Creek Lake in Eupora on June 17.

The tournament is open to enrolled 4-H members in Mississippi who are ages 8-18. Choose to fish from the bank, kayak or boat.

Ben unofficially leads opponents in Tribal Chief race

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians held tribal elections for a new chief and Tribal Council members on Tuesday, June 6.

In an unofficial vote tally, Current Chief Cyrus Ben leads former chief Phyliss J. Anderson by 849 votes. Another opponent, Tarina Kay Anderson received 141 votes.

Free fishing today, Sunday, July 4

JACKSON — To observe National Fishing and Boating Week, today and Sunday have been designated as free fishing days, allowing all Mississippi residents to participate in sport fishing without a license, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

The Louisville Lions Club to hold annual golf tournament

The Louisville Lions Club will hold their annual golf tournament on Saturday, June 10 at the Louisville Country Club. The tournament is a two-man scramble.

Registration for the event will begin from 8 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. Entry fee is $50 per person and it’s 18 holes beginning at 9 a.m.
