Saturday is last day to vote in person absentee

This week was the candidates last week to shake hands and meet as many people as they could as Tuesday, polls will open at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 7 p.m. The very last day to vote absentee in person is tomorrow, November 2. The Choctaw County Circuit Clerkís office will be open from 8 a.m. until noon.

Gary named grand marshal for Eupora Christmas Parade

The Eupora Rotary Club has announced the 2024 Eupora Christmas Parade will be Tuesday Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. This year's theme is ìWinter Wonderland.î Serving as grand marshal will be Will Gary, street supervisor for the city of Eupora. The Rotary Club is accepting parade entries through 1 p.m. Nov. 29; there is no cost for entry.

Members of the Mayoral Health Council, Controllers 4-H Club, 25 Ryders and I Love Me Ministry hosted a ìPromote a Voteî drive Sept. 28 in Maben. Calls were made to nonactive voters and over 10 people were registered to vote. Alderwoman Marlene Thomas had previously registered over 50 people in the surrounding area. Participating in the drive are Rose Graham (back), Nekendra Patterson, Jordan OíBriant,and Charlotte Townsend.

Presidential, School Board races in general election

Next weekís general election ballots in Webster County will include not only the presidential race but contested School Board races in two districts. Any eligible registered voter who registered to vote by Oct. 7 can cast a ballot in the general election, which will be Tuesday, Nov. 5. Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

Supervisors reinstate countywide burn ban

The Choctaw County Board of Supervisors has reinstated the County Wide burn ban and the Town of Ackerman is also under a burn ban because of drought conditions. Although the cold weather is now coming in, the county has not had much ñ if anything ñ in rain. And the ground is too dry.
