Cleanup days upcoming in Mathiston

Mathiston residents are urged to clean out the old during clean-up days, which will be July 22-24.

Dumpsters will be located on Scott Avenue near the old City Hall. These items are not allowed:

• Electronics (TVs, computers, etc.)

• Water Heaters

• Paint

Mayor gives update on city achievements

Eupora Mayor Blake McMullan recently highlighted achievements made in the city during the previous 12 months.

McMullan, during the July 5 meeting of the Board of Aldermen, updated constituents on things they have done and are continuing to work on from the past year. He and the current aldermen took office in July 2021.

Mantee sets special alderman’s election

The village of Mantee has scheduled a special municipal election for the vacancy of alderman.

The election is necessary as a result of the appointment of Alderman Mary Margaret Williams as mayor. As previously reported, she was the only qualifier for mayor following the resignation of Mary Frances Baker.

Freedom Festival features ski show, fireworks

The Eupora Freedom Festival held July 4 at Whites Creek Lake had a large turnout.

This was the first such festival held at the lake after an absence of many years. Rachael Phelps of Women in Motion and other volunteers organized the event.
