Resident wounded in burglary attempt

Choctaw County Sheriff, Brandon Busby, reported that a burglary attempt this past Saturday evening, on Bywy Road has resulted in a local resident receiving a gunshot wound.

Sheriff Busby stated that the burglary target is an unoccupied home, on Bywy Road, which is owned by the victim and other family members.

Memorial Day Service held at Community Center

Local municipal elections set for June 8

Legislation passed last year by the Mississippi legislature does away with any runoffs in small municipal general elections. In elections where there are more than two candidates, the one receiving the most votes, even though it may not be a majority, will be declared the winner.

Supervisors receive annual update from Community Counseling

In a regularly scheduled meeting of the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors, on Monday, May 17, the Board voted 4-0 in favor of a proclamation recognizing May as Mental Health Month. They also received an annual update from Dr. Jan Ganann and Richard Duggin, with Community Counseling Service.
