Boil-water alert issued for Bellefontaine

The city of Eupora issued a boil-water alert last week for the Bellefontaine water system in Webster County.

The notice was issued March 17 until further notice for customers who receive their drinking water from their water supply located in Bellefontaine. It had not been lifted as of Monday afternoon.

Monthly sales tax collections released

Sales tax revenue numbers that reflect January sales are in from the Mississippi Department of Revenue for local municipalities.

MDR collects 81.5 percent of the 7 percent sales tax from municipalities and distributes the remaining 18.5 percent back to the municipalities over a three-month cycle.

Biden, Trump win respective primaries

Unemployment rate increases to 5.9%

Webster County’s unemployment rate for January increased three-tenths of a percentage point to 5.9%, according to figures released by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

The county’s jobless rate was 5.6% both in December and in January 2019.
