Mississippi native’s hoops jersey retired at LSU

LSU basketball retired the jersey of Gulfport native Mahmoud Abdul-Raul, formerly known as Chris Jackson, in a ceremony Saturday night in Baton Rouge. Jackson first came on the scene in Mississippi basketball circles in 1985, and I have to say I have never seen a better shooter.

Ole Miss and Southern Mississippi are 6-1 on the young college baseball season while Mississippi State is 5-1 entering this week’s action. Ole Miss outscored Xavier 35-3 over the weekend as the Rebels’ pitchers shut out the visitors in the opening two games of the series. Three Rebels pitchers combined for a no-hitter on Friday night.
