Saturday afternoon, as many were enjoying the sunshine or the rally at Dean Park in Center Ridge, a strong storm came through the area knocking down trees, power lines and causing power outages.
The storms were strong, but short lived. However, while in the area they caused heavy rain and very gusty winds.
But, fortunately for Winston County, it wasn’t a spin up tornado as many may have thought. Lance Perriloux, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson said it was a straight-line wind that came through the area and caused damage.
“Some in the area saw winds up to 60 miles per hour,” Perriloux said. “But, it wasn’t a spin up. It was just very strong winds,” he said.
