Items stolen from Webster and other counties have been recovered in Scott County.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Friday about the stolen property and the search for a man wanted in connection with the thefts. Information from the release follows:
Narcotics agents with the SCSO were on New Subdivision Road in Morton on Thursday attempting to locate Moses McLaurin to serve a felony arrest warrant for grand larceny.
McLaurin fled on foot and was pursued by narcotics agents. Deputies deployed a K-9 to search the area for him, and the track led back to front area of his residence.
As a result of a search warrant executed for the property, a large amount of stolen property was located inside the residence and a shop adjacent to the residence.
Items from multiple counties across the state were recovered and verified as stolen from those counties’ law enforcement agencies. Some of the items have been verified as stolen from Webster, Rankin, Carroll, Madison, Montgomery, Hinds and Smith counties.
The SCSO said it believed the estimated value of the stolen property is near $300,000 and is expected to exceed that amount. As of Friday, the agency said it was attempting to sort through the items and help get the property back to the rightful owners.
“We did make a trip down there Monday and recovered some items stolen from Webster County,” Sheriff David Gore of Webster County told the Progress-Times. Additional information is to be released later.
McLaurin was still wanted by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office as well as other law enforcement agencies across the state as of Monday. The SCSO is offering a cash reward of $1,000 to anyone that gives information that leads to his arrest.
The department said he is suspected of fabricating false titles to some of the equipment such as tractors, side-by-sides and trailers.
