JACKSON—New Stage Theatre announces Early Bird registration for its 2022 Summer Camps for students rising 2nd to 12th during the 2022-23 school year. Early Bird registration is now through May 2. For more information or to register visit newstagetheatre.com/educate/summer-camps.
“We are excited to welcome students back to New Stage Theatre for our summer programming,” said Education Director Sharon Miles. “First Stages and Broadway Jr. camps have been pivotal in the growth of youth artists for more than a decade. Students have the unique opportunity to take classes from industry professionals and develop skills in acting, singing, and dance. The skills that we teach apply to the craft of theatre and beyond. Students learn to collaborate with their peers, build self-confidence, and have a great time in the process! We are looking forward to another great summer at New Stage!”
There two age appropriate camps available. Students currently enrolled in 1st - 6th grades in the 2021-22 school year can participate in our New Stage Theatre First Stages Camp June 6 - 17, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Students currently enrolled in 6th - 11th grades in the 2021-22 school year can participate in the Broadway Jr. Summer Camp June 20 - July 17 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m .to 4 p.m.
Special for this year: Graduating seniors will be able to register for the Broadway Jr Summer Camp.
The Early Bird cost of the First Stages is $250. The Early Bird cost of the Broadway Jr. Summer Camp Intensive is $475. After May 2, registration is $300 for the First Stages and $525 for the Broadway Jr. Camp.
The New Stage Theatre First Stages Camp will include creative dramatic games, structured improvisations, and will culminate in a showcase performance for invited friends and family. Camp Participants will receive instruction in acting, improvisation, stage movement, musical theatre, dance, voice and diction, and auditioning. The camp will conclude with a showcase performance open to family and friends. Titles under consideration are Magic Tree House: The Knights at Dawn Kids and Seussical Kids.

The New Stage Theatre Broadway Jr. Camp Intensive includes an introduction to all elements of theatre production in daily classes. The culmination of the camp will be a fully produced production presented on New Stage’s main stage. Titles under consideration are Into the Woods, Jr., Children of Eden, Jr., and The Lion King, Jr. Camp participants will receive instruction in acting, improvisation, stage movement, musical theatre, dance, voice and diction, and auditioning.
“New Stage Theatre’s day camp offers excellent training for young artists,” said Artistic Director Francine Thomas Reynolds. “We usually cast New Stage campers in our subscription season’s youth roles. It is wonderful to see the young actors’ growth from camp to holding their own with professionals on our mainstage.”
The camps incorporate more than 100 hours of instruction by theatre professionals with a combined 100 years of professional theatre experience. Coupled with the opportunity to perform on the main stage of a professional theatre, the New Stage Theatre Summer Camp Series is a “can’t miss” event for your aspiring actors.

Winner of the 2019 Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, New Stage Theatre was chartered as a not-for-profit organization in 1965, producing its initial season in the winter/spring of 1966. Founded by Jane Reid-Petty with the assistance of the American National Theatre Academy and Actor’s Equity Association, dedication to professional excellence in theatre arts was part of the theatre’s original mission. New Stage’s education department was founded in 1989 and received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 1995 for its efforts to introduce tens of thousands of young Mississippians to live theatre.
