One of the South’s Top 20 Events, Featuring Nationally Recognized Programs
COLUMBUS, MS (February 2, 2022) - The Preservation Society of Columbus has announced the 2022 Columbus Spring Pilgrimage will emerge redesigned and will take place March 24th -April 16th after a 2-year pandemic absence.
The annual Spring Pilgrimage, an 80-year tradition, has been redesigned to better reflect the Preservation Society’s mission statement: to save, conserve, and preserve buildings and places that include all cultures, all neighborhoods, and all memories that define our past, present, and future through storytelling, advocacy, and education. “The daily home tours of some of the most historically significant private homes in America will remain the cornerstone of the Spring Pilgrimage experience,” said Preservation Society board member, Margaret Bateman. The architectural periods of the homes featured have been expanded and will give guests a comprehensive view of Columbus’ storied history.
The most exciting additions to the annual Pilgrimage are the nationally recognized, multicultural, interactive, interpretive, educational programs for all ages. Guests will go Behind the Big House for 2-day event with Joe McGill, founder of the renowned Slave Dwelling Project; participate in the cultural Expressions of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians; stroll through the historic Friendship Cemetery with Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science’s Tales from the Crypt; and celebrate the artistry and take part in the favorite pastimes of Columbus’ most famous resident, Tennessee Williams. Take a break during the day and join us each Thursday for “Lunch and Learn,'' led by experts in their fields and held at corresponding historic locations. Topics include the Women’s Suffrage Movement, The Queen City Hotel, Local Native American History, and Tennessee Williams.
Tickets will be available online March 1st at www.preservecolumbus.com
Proceeds fund preservation, research, and programming of the Preservation Society of Columbus, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.
