East Webster will face another challenging schedule this upcoming football season.
The Wolverines will get tested right off the bat as they will host defending Class 1A state champion Nanih Waiya in a jamboree on Aug. 16.
After that two-quarter contest with Nanih Waiya, the Wolverines will step up in class as they travel to South Pontotoc on Aug. 23. The Cougars were 7-5 in Class 3A last year but lost in the first round of the playoffs to rival North Pontotoc.
After South Pontotoc, the Wolverines will return home for a three-game stretch. They will kick off that stretch with Class 1A Shaw, who went 4-5 last year and missed the Class 1A playoffs. The two teams met last year as the Wolverines took a 29-6 win.
The Wolverines will follow that with Class 1A Vardaman on Sept. 6. The Rams were 4-7 last year and narrowly missed making the playoffs.
After two straight 1A contests, the Wolverines will take on Class 3A Choctaw County on Sept. 13. The Chargers were 8-4 last year and beat the Wolverines 42-13 to open the season. The Chargers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
On Sept. 20, the Wolverines will travel to East Union. The Urchins were 7-4 last year and won their division but lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Lake.
The Wolverines will then close out non-division play as they host Union. The Yellowjackets were 8-5 last year and made the second round of the Class 2A playoffs, losing to Calhoun City 35-0.
Division play will begin on Oct. 4 as the Wolverines travel to Calhoun City. The Wildcats beat the Wolverines 35-6 last year as they went 10-5 and made the Class 2A North State finals, losing to eventual state champion Scott Central 27-0.
After Calhoun City, the Wolverines will host J.Z. George on Thursday, Oct. 10. The Jaguars are dropping down from Class 3A where they went 0-11 last year.
The Wolverines will then close out October as they travel to rival Eupora on Oct. 25. The Wolverines won last year’s Maroon Bowl with a tough 7-6 win over the Eagles to claim Webster County bragging rights for another year.
The Wolverines will close out the regular season as they host Bruce for Senior night. The Trojans went 4-8 last year and lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Scott Central 55-6.
