After being swept by Calhoun City, the East Webster Wolverines responded with four wins this week.
The Wolverines beat playoff-bound Houston 5-4 on Tuesday and then took a 13-9 win over West Point on Thursday. The Wolverines finished off the week with a doubleheader sweep of Leflore County, winning 13-3 and 15-0.
East Webster improved to 14-5 on the season and has two regular-season games scheduled for this week. The Wolverines will play at Bruce on Monday and at French Camp on Tuesday. The Wolverines will finish as the No. 2 seed in the division and will likely play New Site in the first round of the Class 2A North State playoffs.
East Webster 13, West Point 9
The Wolverines took a four-run win over the Green Wave on Thursday.
West Point led 7-4 after three innings before the Wolverines scored six in the fifth and three in the sixth to take the win.
East Webster had 13 hits and 11 walks but left nine on base. Cameron Pilgrim was 4-for-4 on the day with three stolen bases and two runs scored. Sloan Hillhouse was 3-for-4 with a double, three stolen bases and three RBIs. Wes Silver was 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and two stolen bases while Jesse Roberts was 2-for-4 and scored a run. Jon Austin Roberts walked three times and scored two runs while Jase Grantham had two RBIs.
The Wolverines threw five pitchers as Gavin Edwards, Kainan Reed, Will Gaskin, Roberts and Gray McCarter all saw at least one inning.
East Webster 5, Houston 4The Wolverines scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a one-run win over the Hilltoppers on Tuesday.
Houston scored three n the second and one in the sixth. East scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth before scoring two in the sixth to take win.
The Wolverines outhit Houston 12-5 in the contest, including six doubles. Jon Austin Roberts had two doubles while Jase Grantham, Hastings Gibson, Sloan Hillhouse and John Wesley Hardin each had two hits including a double. Hardin also had two RBIs.
Roberts started on the mound and pitched two innings and gave up three unearned runs. Will Gaskin pitch one scoreless inning while Sloan Hillhouse pitched two scoreless innings. Hastings Gibson pitched the sixth and gave up one run while Gray McCarter pitched the seventh and struck out two to pick up the win.
East Webster 13-0, Leflore County 3-0
The Wolverines swept a division doubleheader from Leflore County on Friday, winning 13-3 and 15-0.
