The East Webster Wolverines won five games this past week, including a first-round sweep of O’Bannon in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
East Webster hammered O’Bannon 17-2 and 13-3 in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. In other action last week, East Webster swept Bruce 10-5 and 7-4 and also beat Oak Hill Academy 19-8.
East Webster improves to 20-6 on the season and 8-1 in Division 2-2A play. The Wolverines will take on New Site in the second round of the playoffs. New Site beat Union 12-7 and 12-10 in the first round of the playoffs.

Bruce 5
The Wolverines scored all 10 runs in the sixth inning to take a five-run win over the Trojans on Monday.
Bruce led for most of the game, scoring three in the first and one in the fifth. to go up 4-0. But East Webster exploded for 10 runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead.
East Webster had 15 hits in the contest as Wes Silver was 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Jon Austin Roberts was 3-for-4 with a double. Hastings Green was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs while Cameron Pilgrim was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. J.T. Slay was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Sloan Hillhouse also had two RBIs.
Walker Johnson got the start and pitched one inning and gave up three runs on one hit and one walk while Jon Austin Roberts pitched the final six innings and gave up two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three.
East Webster 7,
Bruce 4
The Wolverines banged out six double and took a three-run win over the Trojans to wrap up the Division 2-2A championship.
Bruce scored two runs in the top of the first before East Webster scored one in the first and three in the second. East scored another run in the fourth to go up 5-2. Bruce scored two in the top of the fifth to pull within 5-4. East added two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.
East had 14 hits in the contest as J.T. Slay was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Cameron Pilgrim was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Art Thompson, Walker Johnson and Sloan Hillhouse were each 2-for-3 with a double while Hastings Gibson walked twice and scored twice.
Gray McCarter pitched 4 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three. Art Thompson pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up one hit and struck out two. Johnson pitched the final inning and gave up one hit and two walks while striking out two.
East Webster 19,
Oak Hill 8
The Wolverines banged out 19 hits and used an eight-run seventh inning to take an 11-run win over Oak Hill Academy on Thursday.
East scored three in the first and fifth innings, two in the third and fourth while scoring eight in the seventh.
Wes Silver was 4-for-5 with a double and home run as he scored three times and drove in five runs. Art Thompson was also 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Dalton Perrigin was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs while J.T. Slay was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Cameron Pilgrim was 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Jon Austin Roberts scored twice and drove in two runs. Hastings Gibson drove in two runs while Sloan Hillhouse also scored three runs.
Hillhouse got the start and gave up four runs on three hits and a walk while Art Thompson pitched six innings and gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
East Webster 17-13,
O’Bannon 2-3
The Wolverines had little trouble with O’Bannon in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs, sweeping both games.
In game 1, The Wolverines had 12 hits as Hastings Gibson was 3-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs. Will Gaskin, Clay Neal and Kainan Reed were each 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Luke McKee had a double and drove in three runs. Sloan Hillhouse and Wes Silver combined on the no-hitter and struck out five.
In Game 2, East Webster won 13-3.
