It was a huge week on the track for the Patriots as they had five individual first place finishes for high school boys and girls.
It helped that the Patriots were in familiar territory running on their home track in the Winston Invitational, but they had some tough competition. Columbus Christian, Winona Christian, Oak Hill, Hatley, Hamilton and Hillcrest Christian were the teams in attendance.
One of the state’s top high jumpers, Madelyn Bright, put together another routine day on the track with a 4’8” jump and turned around to run the 400m in 1:09.56, both first-place finishes on the afternoon.
On the boys side of things, the Patriots saw Evan Willis finish first in the 300m hurdles with a time of 46.9. Luke Dempsey won first in the 100m hurdles with a 19.58 time and Nash Valnlandingham dominated the field with a 113’ discus throw and a 41’5” shot put for first place finishes.
The junior high had an even bigger day for coaches Justin Childs and Moe Reed. The girls had two first place finishers with Natalie Eaves winning the 100m dash at 14.0 and Jennie Hamilton finishing with a 27’5” shot put for first.
The junior high boys 4 X 200 relay team took home first with a time of 1:48.75 as Hayze Gregory, Carson Watkins, Jett Joiner and Taylor Hudson all raced successfully. Gregory put together as impressive of a day as anyone on the team as he also took home first place honors in the 110m hurdles, the high jump and the long jump. He had a 16.43 time in the 110 and jumped a 5’2 and 17’8” respectively.
Jack Wooten also placed first in his group with the discus at 94’0”.
On the way for the Patriots this week is the junior high district championships at Canton Academy. The high school team will run in the district championships on April 17.
