A legacy was left by the Winston Academy girls basketball team that won’t soon be forgotten in 2018-19.
Three seniors led the way in what would be a 28-10 season filled with monumental wins and some trophies as well. The Lady Patriots would take home second place in the regular season in 2AAA play, in the district tournament and in the north state tournament finishing behind only state champion Leake who handed the Lady Patriots four of their 10 losses on the year.
The end of the road came last week at Leake Academy but to Hillcrest Christian. Winston fought to the end in a game that was neck and neck but eventually fell 50-44. It wasn’t without district player of the year Lilly Sisson putting together a monster effort in her final game. The Mississippi College signee had 21 points and WA also got 10 points from Bailey Wood.
Sisson, Wood and fellow senior Madelyn Bright ended their careers having competed for two district titles in the last three years.
Along with Sisson on the all-conference team were the two seniors as well as eighth grader Hailey Bradford who made a big splash for the high school team this year. She is set to have a big next few years with the Lady Patriots as she continues to progress.
Sisson also was named to the MAIS All-Star game and WA head coach Moe Reed will coach in the even.
