Winston Academy was scheduled to get its 2018 baseball season under way with four games this week, weather permitting.
The Patriots, under the direction of second-year head coach Todd Allen, were slated to go to Central Holmes on Tuesday and will visit Kirk Academy in Grenada on Thursday.
Friday, the Patriots are slated to go to Columbus Christian Academy, and on Saturday, they’ll host Newton County Academy in their 2018 home opener.
Winston returns 14 players in all from last season’s team which went 11-9. As many as 13 different players could see time on the hill in either varsity or junior-varsity action.
Returning players for Allen include Hunter Gregory, Aiden Fancher, Jesse Boydstun, Luke Bigham, Noah Dempsey, Jackson Joiner, Peyton McCool, Colby Allen, Hayze Gregory, Nicholas Dempsey, Bryce Waggoner, Josh McGinnis, Brian Woodward and Spencer Wilson. The only newcomer to the high school team is outfielder Trey Dana.
Next week, Winston has four more games on tap: The Patriots will host Central Holmes on Monday (Feb. 26) and go to Leake Central on Tuesday (Feb. 27).
Next Thursday (March 1), Winston is slated to go to DeKalb to face Kemper Academy, and on Saturday (March 3), the Patriots will host Leake Central.
