The Wildcats of Louisville High School dropped a pair of baseball games last week over the spring break holiday.
Louisville has a pair of Region 4-4A games this week as it hosts New Hope on Tuesday and travels to New Hope on Friday. On Saturday, Louisville hosts Neshoba Central.
Louisville and Caledonia entered the top of the fifth inning with the score tied at three before a nine-run fifth inning gave Caledonia enough runs to secure a 13-8 victory last Wednesday.
Caledonia went ahead 1-0 in the top of the second before the Wildcats tied the score at one following a Jace Hudspeth single that scored Drea Shumaker. Hudspeth scored on an error in the frame to give Louisville a 2-1 lead. Caledonia added two runs in the top of the fourth to move ahead 3-2.
Takobe Johnson scored on a passed ball in the bottom half of the fourth to knot the score at three before Caledonia added its 10-run fifth to take a 12-3 lead.
"It was spring break, and we were out of our routine, and I think it affected our guys," Louisville coach Kylie Ming said. "We did not show up and play ball like I know we can. We have got to do a much better job of being prepared to play ball no matter what else we may have going on.
In the bottom of the sixth, Shumaker notched a fielder’s choice RBI to score Deonte Yarbrough, and Ty Cooper scored on a Caledonia error. Roper Stoots plated Braylon White with a fielder’s choice RBI for Louisville’s sixth run.
Caledonia scored a run via a Louisville error in the top of the seventh, and Louisville’s Cooper smacked a two-RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to score Shemar Eiland and Yarbrough. Hudspeth went 2-for-3 while Omari Evan was 2-for-4. Cooper posted a team-best two RBIs.
Louisville fell 8-1 in its contest against Eupora, which was also played on Wednesday.
Shumaker, Stoots and Evans each collected singles. Shumaker tallied the team’s lone RBI via a single that scored Yarbrough.
"We competed much better in the game against Caledonia than we did against Eupora, but we still beat ourselves with errors on defense and base-running mistakes," Ming said. "Cam Sanders started the game against Caledonia and pitched very well."
