PONTOTOC – Israel Whitmore and Taliak Davis of Choctaw County won the boys throwing events at the Pontotoc Invitational last Saturday.
Whitmore, a junior, won the shot pout with a throw of 47-11, more than a foot better than the runner-up. He is the defending 3A state champion in the event. Davis, a senior threw the discus 116-5½, more than four feet further than the second place finisher.
Whitmore also took third in the high jump (5-10) and fourth in the long jump (19-6). Davis was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 40-2½.
Other boys with top eight performances: Rahiem Taylor, third in 110 hurdles (16.08) and eighth in the pole vault (8 feet); DaJuan Woods, fourth in the 200 (23.91) and eighth in the 100 (11.80); Julius Buggs, fourth in the discus (111-1) and sixth in the shot put (39-0); Landon Toombs, sixth in the 400 (58.63); Brandon Hadley, sixth in the 800 (2:23.71) and seventh in the 3200 (12:43); Julian Foreman, seventh in the 300 hurdles (49.37) and eighth in the triple jump (35-11¼); Trenton McGee, seventh in the pole vault (8 feet); Rylee McGlothin, eighth in the 800 (2:37.27); and Tyler Holman, eighth in the 300 hurdles (49.68).
Boys relay teams finished third in the 3200, fifth in the 1600 and sixth in the 400.
The top performance by a Choctaw County girl was fourth by Eilundra Curtis in the long jump at 14-2).
N'Kia Belk finished sixth in the long jump (13-2) and eighth in the 100 hurdles (22.04). Terria Davis took eighth in the discus (58-5) and the 400 relay team was sixth.
Choctaw County teams will compete in the Division 4-3A meet April 10 at Tishomingo County.
