The 2018 football schedule for Nanih Waiya was released last week, as well as some news that the Warriors will make an appearance at Mississippi State University.
While the bulk of the Warriors’ 2018 slate closely resembles the 2017 schedule, first-year head coach James Courtney and Nanih Waiya will unofficially get it started with a jamboree game at Davis-Wade Stadium in Starkville.
Originally scheduled to battle Class 3A Choctaw County in jamboree action at Ackerman on Aug. 10, Nanih Waiya will now face the Chargers at Mississippi State at 7 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 11 as part of a two-day jamboree showcase at MSU.
The regular season begins Aug. 17 with a home game against Hatley, the first of three straight contests against Class 2A teams to begin the season.
Nanih Waiya is coming off a 15-1 season in which the Warriors finished as the Class 1A state runnerup to three-time defending champ Hollandale-Simmons. Nanih Waiya will enter the 2018 campaign with 33-game winning streak against in-district competition.
Following the home date with Hatley, the Warriors will go to Union Aug. 24 and to Winona on Aug. 31.
The Region 3-1A schedule begins the following week, as Nanih Waiya goes to Hamilton on Sept. 7. The Warriors host Sebastopol on Sept. 14, go to French Camp Academy on Sept. 21 and host Leake County on Sept. 28.
October begins with a road trip to West Lowndes on Oct. 5, followed by home dates against Vardaman on Oct. 12 and Ethel on Oct. 19. The final non-division game of the season for the Warriors is Oct. 26 at home against Smithville.
Nanih Waiya will travel to cross-county rival Noxapater for its final regular-season region contest, with the matchup once again currently set for a Thursday night (Nov. 1) affair.
The Class 1A state playoffs will begin Nov. 9.
