Winston Academy capped a nice season in track and field by sending some athletes to the MAIS Overall State Championships last weekend and capping it with an individual state championship coming back to Louisville.
That championship went to Nash Vanlandingham who swept the shot put titles in District 2-AAA and North State. He had a throw of 42-06.50 to seal the state title and would also finish seventh in the state in the discus.
Evan Willis had a chance to participate in the high jump championships at Jackson Academy, but was disqualified and didn’t place.
On Saturday over at Jackson Prep, the girls got a chance to show their abilities. Seventh grader Natalee Eaves finished up a stellar first year with the Patriots as she placed seventh in the 200 meter and 100 M dash.
Eaves also participated in the 4 X 100 and 4 X 200 relay with her team of Laura Vowell, Lana Boatner and Madelyn Bright. They capped a nice year as a relay team with a sixth-place finish.
