CLINTON – Nanih Waiya had three runners at the boys 1A state cross country meet Monday, a freshman, a sophomore and a junior. Because there were fewer than five runners, Nanih Waiya was not able to compete as a team
Trey McMullan, the junior, was the Warriors top runner, finishing 25th in a field of 89 from 17 schools with a 5,000 meter time of 20:36.3 over the difficult Choctaw Trails course. Freshman Austin Windle was 64th in 23:46.2 and sophomore Carter Grimes was close behind in 67th with a clocking of 24:26.3.
Brock Kelly led Tupelo Christian to its third boys title in four years with a time of 16:02.9, the 12th best time in the 38-year history of the state meet. Tupelo Christian also won the girls meet for the fourth consecutive year.
Kelly’s time was among four Elite Performances Monday according to MileSplit, a website for track and cross country. The others were Christian Balcer of East Central who won 5A boys with the sixth best time ever of 15:50.6, Brooklyn Biancamano of Long Beach who won 5A girls for the third year in a row at 18:33.2 and Madison Jones of Saltillo who was second to Biancamano in 19:32.4
Other team winners Monday were Brookhaven boys and Saltillo girls in 5A and Senatobia boys and St. Andrew’s girls in 3A. The 2A/4A/6A meet was held Wednesday.
