With softball being a numbers game, it was hard for Eupora coach Amir Hunt to miss out on the best stat of the year. "We are three for three,” Hunt said about his senior class. All three of Eupora’s seniors recently signed to play junior college softball on Thursday in a ceremony at the school. Eupora seniors Kylie Richardson, Alley Reed and Jameelah Marshall all signed letters of intent on Thursday. Richardson signed to play with Holmes Community College while Reed signed Northwest Community College and Marshall is headed to East Mississippi Community College. “These three, they mean a lot to our softball programs,” Hunt said. “Anytime you have a player to sign, it’s a big deal and says a lot about your program and an exciting time for your program. It also says a lot about the program they are a part of. They are our only three seniors so that makes us three for three. They are all good players and I expect them all to push for playing time next year. Fortunately, we get one last (fast-pitch) season with them.” The Lady Eagles were 17-3-1 last year. They lost to eventual North 2A champion Lake in the first round of the playoffs, losing two out of three games. Both Reed and Richardson were selected to play in the Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star Slow-pitch softball game recently. Richardson plays third base for the Lady Eagles and Hunt says she is one of the better ones in the state. “In my opinion, there is not a better third baseman in Class 2A,” Hunt said. “She might be the best in the state. In most places, she would be a shortstop. I don’t remember her making a bad throw. If you hit it to her, it’s an out. I mean every throw was right there. And I saw her make several unassisted double plays.” In slow-pitch, Reed plays left center and plays center field in fast-pitch. “She can cover a lot of ground in the outfield,” Hunt said. “”They used to say about Fred Smoot that water covered 75 percent of the Earth and Fred Smooth covered the rest of it. That’s the way I feel about Alley. She gets to everything. She can just cover so much ground.” Marshall also plays in the outfield for the Lady Eagles. “She’s very, very solid in the outfield,” Hunt said. “I think she is only going to get better the more she plays. She has a tremendous upside.”
