As the MHSAA basketball season enters its stretch run, there are only four teams that remain undefeated, two boys team and two girls team.
The Lady Pirates of Pearl are 21-0 and ranked No. 2 overall by Mississippi Gridiron, as well as No. 2 ranked Class 6A team, trailing top-ranked Meridian (22-1) in other polls. The other undefeated girls team is 14-0 West Lowndes who is ranked No. 3 in MHSAA Class 1A.
Both undefeated boys team in MHSAA Class 1A. Top-ranked Ingomar is 24-0, while No. 2 Biggersville is 16-0.

EYES ON SENIOR BOWL
The Mobile-based college all-star football game will have three Mississippians playing this Saturday. Ole Miss players Benito Jones and Josiah Coatney will join State’s Brian Cole II. Former Ole Miss players Van Jefferson (LSU) and Shea Patterson (Michigan) are also on the rosters.

KOSY NAMES NEW COACH
Pearl offensive coordinator Justin Hunter was named the new head football coach at Kosciusko High School last week.
Hunter, 33, has previous head coaching experience at Noxapater, going 18-7 over a two-year span. He resigned at Noxapater to join the staff of coach John Perry at Pearl High School where he remained for six years.
Prior to joining the Noxapater staff as an assistant for his first full-time coaching job, Hunter spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant at Louisville High School under coach Brad Peterson where the Wildcats won back-to-back MHSAA State Football Championships.

CCHS SPLITS REGION CONTESTS
The Choctaw County boys and girls basketball teams both had a win and a loss last week in the first two Region 4-3A games of the season.
The Chargers lost to Houston 60-52, then defeated Aberdeen 44-35. It was the reverse for the Lady Chargers with a 45-40 overtime victory over Houston and a 53-28 loss to Aberdeen. The Chargers and Lady Chargers played East Webster Tuesday and have Region 4-3A home games with Hatley Friday.

COLLEGE BASEBALL ARRIVES
College baseball begins Saturday in the Magnolia State wen Tougaloo travels to Loyola of New Orleans to open the 2020 season. William Carey opens at home on Jan. 31 while Delta State and Mississippi College will begin the following day.
First pitch for Ole Miss, Mississippi State, USM, Alcorn and Jackson State will be Feb. 14.
