Seventeen Winston County seniors are expected to sign football letters of intent during signing day ceremonies on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
At this point 10 Louisville High School Wildcats are expected to sign during a 10 a.m. event in the high school auditorium, while up to five Nanih Waiya standouts are set to make their decisions official at 1 p.m. at the NW high school library. Noxapater has two players expected to sign that day as well, but a time and location has yet to be announced.
Players can continue to sign after that date, but Feb.5 is the first day of the Spring signing period.

MSU WOMEN ON ROLL
The Mississippi State women whipped Ole Miss and Vandy last week although they did suffer a two-point road loss to No. 1 South Carolina earlier in the week. The Lady Bulldogs are 18-3 overall and 6-1 in SEC play while Ole Miss is winless in SEC play. The Southern Miss Lady Eagles (11-7, 3-4) lost two conference games this week and now must hit the road for games at Old Dominion and Charlotte.

GCS HOOPS BRACKET SET
The Grace Christian School boys and girls basketball teams will conclude their seasons with the Grace Christian School Invitational Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7 and 8. There will be five boys teams and four girls teams, with a double elimination format playing 14 games over the two days. Games will be two 20-minute halves, with a running clock until the final two minutes.
The tournament tips off at 2 p.m. Feb. 7 with a boys game between Meridian Home School and North New Summit. That will be followed the same day by: Game 2 – Grace Christian vs. Meridian Home School girls; Game 3 – Grace Christian vs. Starkville Christian boys; Game 4 – Victory Christian vs. Starkville Christian girls; Game 5 – Victory Christian boys vs. the winner of Game 1; Game 6 – Losers of Games 2 and 4; and Game 7 – Losers of Games 1 and 3.
Seven more games will be played Feb. 8, beginning at 1 p.m. and ending with girls and boys championship games.

REBS EARN FIRST SEC WIN
The road weary Ole Miss Rebels (10-9, 1-5) won their first conference game by 10 points at Georgia. The Rebels hit over half of their shots from the floor. The Mississippi State Bulldogs fell this weekend in Norman to Oklahoma in the Big 12 vs. SEC challenge. MSU (12-7, 3-3) plays at Florida and hosts Tennessee this week. USM (6-15, 2-6) in C-USA play will host Old Dominion on Thursday this week as they try to get back on track after suffering a two-point last second loss to Middle Tennessee.

The NJCAA preseason baseball poll shows a lot about our state’s junior college baseball programs. Pearl River is ranked No. 5, Jones No. 6, Itawamba No. 7, Northwest 15th, Hinds 17th and Meridian 20th.

FEDORA LANDS AT BAYLOR
Former USM head football coach Larry Fedora will join former Delta State defensive coordinator Dave Aranda Baylor’s staff as offensive coordinator. Aranda was the DC at LSU this season. Former DSU head coach Ron Roberts will be the DC at Baylor.

TRYOUTS SET IN SCOOBA
Five-time national champion East Mississippi Community College is scheduled to conduct open football tryouts on Friday, Feb. 7, on the Scooba campus.
The 1 p.m. tryout session at EMCC's Sullivan-Windham Field will be for current high school seniors and recent high school graduates with NJCAA eligibility remaining.
There will be a $10 registration fee (cash or check) for all tryout participants. Checks should be made payable to the EMCC Development Foundation.
Interested players are required to bring their own workout gear and cleats for participation in EMCC's football tryouts. All players must also provide an up-to-date athletic physical form to participate in the tryouts.
