The Wolverines will host Potts Camp in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs on Friday night. The Cardinals are 5-5 on the season and made the playoffs for the first time in school history. Potts Camp has wins over H.W. Byers (54-14), Bluff City, Tenn. (54-0), Alcorn Central (40-12), Strayhorn (15-7) and Mantachie (12-8). They have losses to Walnut (39-27), East Union (41-0), Bruce (50-6), Independence (45-0) and Tipton-Rosemark Academy (29-6).
“They finished third in their division and made the playoffs for the fist time in school history and are very excited about it,” Price said. “We are excited to host a playoff game for our kids. I feel like our kids took a step forward to get a home playoff game. Now that we are in, we have to take care of business.”

UPCOMING SCHEDULE RETURNS
Beginning this week the Webster Progress Times will begin running a local sports schedule to keep its readers informed of the upcoming sports activities in the area.
High schools covered by Louisville Publishing — which consists of the Choctaw Plaindealer, Winston County Journal, and Webster Progress times — are included in the schedule as well as Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Holmes Community College and East Central Community College. FCA BACK RUNS WILD
A superman type performance in a 45-20 victory over Vardaman, brought French Camp Academy’s C.J. Johnson very close to 1,000 rushing yards for the season. The junior quarterback ran 18 times for 331 yards and four touchdowns. He also compered three passes for 75 yards and a TD.
Johnson has 141 carries for 994 yards, better than seven yards a try, with 13 TDs. He has thrown for 667 yards and six TDs.

ADDING UP QUICKLY
Mississippi’s high school career record for passing yardage could soon be changing hands.
Taylorsville quarterback Ty Keyes, just a junior, enters the playoffs this week against Union with 2,996 yards passing on the season.
Keyes threw for 4,562 as a freshman and 3,736 as a sophomore to give him 11,294 yards for his career. That leaves the junior quarterback just 1,265 yards short of Mississippi’s all-time yardage leader Dylan Farve of St. Stanislaus who finished with 12,559 yards.
On the year, Keys is 155-of-222 passing and has 35 touchdowns which gives him 119 for his career.

CCHS’ JOHNSON COMMITS
Choctaw County High School girls basketball standout LaGenesis Johnson has committed to play for Alcorn State University next season.
Johnson, a senior at CCHS, was also an accomplished volleyball player. She will be a key factor for the Lady Chargers on the basketball court this season.
