The Wolverines of East Webster will return to action this week as they host J.Z. George for homecoming on Thursday night in a division 2-2A contest.
The Jaguars are 3-4 on the season with wins over McAdams (20-0), Hamilton (36-20) and Leake County 26-0). They have losses to Central Holmes Academy (37-34), Winona (34-14) West Bolivar (28-15) and Walnut (28-2). The Jaguars are led by sophomore running back Deriaun Townsend, who had 971 yards on 103 carries in six games.
“They have a good running back and have been able to establish the run this season,” EW head football coach Ron Price said “I think the biggest thing for East Webster is how do we respond from our first loss. It’s homecoming and I have challenged our kids to defend our home field. It’s a short week and a division game and we have to take care of business in division. It doesn’t matter who we play, we have to fix our mistakes and see how we respond to this loss.”

LONG FIELD GOAL ATTEMPTS
In Kosciusko’s 38-35 loss to Choctaw Central, the Whippets lined up to attempt a 96-yard field goal early in the second quarter with field goal kicker Will Carter. The ball went out of bounds at the Kosciusko 48-yard line where the ball was spotted.
The move was predicated due to injuries to both Kosciusko punters. According to a local official, the ball has to cross the goal line to be spotted at the 20 and is live just like a punt and can be returned by the defense.
Later in the game, the Whippets lined up for a 76-yard field goal attempt that netted 19 yards.
