The Noxapater boys basketball team didn’t quite get to where first-year coach Jerrick Porter wanted them to get, but he got closer than most people thought he would.
The Tigers fell in the finals of the Division 6-1A Tournament on Friday night, losing a 51-41 decision to West Lowndes to finish as the No. 2 seed in the division.
The Lady Tigers ended their season in the opening round of the tournament, falling 49-35 to rival Nanih Waiya.
Noxapater is now 11-8 on the season and was to host Mount Olive in a first-round playoff game on Tuesday. After a strong start to the season, the Pirates lost eight in a row and enter the playoffs with an 11-12 record.

The Tigers fell by 10 points in the championship game of the Division 6-1A Tournament on Friday night, losing to the Panthers for the second time this season. Mount Olive comes into the contest with a 10-12 record.
West Lowndes led 21-16 at the half and continued to pull away in the second half as they outscored Noxapater 12-11 in the third and 18-14 in the fourth.
No individual scorers were available for Noxapater.

The Tigers built a big first-half lead and cruised to an 11-point win in the semifinals of the Division 6-1A Tournament on Thursday night.
Noxapater led 12-7 at the end of the first period and used a 16-3 lead in the second period to take a 28-10 lead at the half. Nanih Waiya outscored Noxapater 15-6 in the third to cut the lead to 34-25. But Noxapater held of Nanih Waiya in the fourth, outscoring the Warriors 16-14 to take the win.
Jared Triplett led Noxapater with 17 points while Quinton Jordan had 10 points and eight rebounds. Depodray Coburn had nine points and five rebounds while Malik Miller added six points.

After splitting games in the regular season, the Lady Warriors took the rubber match against their rivals in the opening round of the Division 6-1A Tournament on Tuesday night.
After each team scored 11 points in the first period, Noxapater outscored Nanih Waiya 7-4 to take an 18-15 lead at the half. But the Lady Warriors exploded in the third period, outscoring the Lady Tigers 24-4 to take a 39-22 lead into the fourth. Noxapater took the fourth period 13-10 for the final advantage.
No individual scorers were available for Noxapater.
The Lady Tigers finish the season with a 2-16 record.
