When Mississippi State chose Washington State head coach Mike Leach as the new head man in Starkville they picked up the majority of Leach’s Cougar staff.
That included the entire offensive staff that made the move from Pullman, Wash., to Mississippi, but despite the staff being known for its West coast ties recently one actually has Winston county blood running through his veins.
Inside receivers coach Dave Nichol comes to Starkville from WSU after coaching three years with Leach in Pullman. His connection with Leach goes all the way back to the late 1990s where he was a wide receiver at Texas Tech, but his connection to Louisville goes back longer than that.
Nichol is the son of Jean Easterwood, formerly of Louisville. His Mississippi roots tie back together in 2020 as he will coach football 30 miles down the road at Davis Wade Stadium and he’s already hit the ground running inside the state of Mississippi recruiting for the Bulldogs.
