With a large number of retuning players and two key additions, French Camp Academy girls basketball coach Priscilla Anderson is optimistic. “I’m really excited,” she said.
The newcomers are a player, senior Madison Klein, and an assistant coach, Polly Kirkland Levert, a former Pearl River Community College head coach.
Klein played for St. Andrew’s two years ago. At nearly six feet, she adds needed height for the Lady Panthers.
“She’s going to be a very integral part of the team,” Anderson said.
Last year’s leading scorer, Zee Gladney, graduated, but almost everyone else is back and the team is still young. “I have a core group of girls that I have had for the last two years who have really stepped up for me,” Anderson said.
Returnees include freshman Jasmine Bonty, sophomore Jordan Carter, junior Abbie Grace Hunt, junior Haleigh Outlaw, freshman Taylor Benoist, freshman Abby Leathers and freshman Grace Ann Wade.
“We have to revamp the offense, finding ways to score. That’s one of our focuses this year. We’re going to try to turn defense into offense to score.”
Levert will be they key to improved offense,” Anderson said.
“She’s an offense-minded coach. I’m more defensive minded so we feed off each other.”
French Camp will compete is Region 5-1A with Durant, Ethel, McAdams and Coffeeville. Durant is the defending champion.
The season begins Nov. 6 with a game at Winona.
