HATTIESBURG – Nanih Waiya seniors Tanner Luke and Coley Taylor helped the South to a 6-4 victory in the Crossroads Diamond Club D.M. Howie baseball all star game for 1A and 2A schools. The game was played Saturday at William Carey College.
Luke started at third base and Taylor at second base for the South. Both went 1 for 2 and Taylor scored a run. Luke also pitched one scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
The South rallied with three runs in the bottom of the eighth for the win in a nine inning game.
Taylor and Luke were key players for the Warriors in a 21-3 season that ended with a loss to Hamilton in the 1A playoffs. They also played on Nanih Waiya teams that won state championships in 2017 and 2018.
Taylor batted .400 this year with nine doubles, three homers, 21 RBIs and 28 runs scored.
Luke had a .500 average with nine doubles, three homers, 20 RBIs and 33 runs scored. He was also 5-1 with a 2.33 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 33 innings.
