The 33rd Annual Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Football Classic will be played in the state of Mississippi for the third time in the history of the series this Saturday at Carlisle Faulkner Field at M. M. Roberts Stadium on the campus of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon and general admission tickets will be available for $10 per person with children under the age of 5 admitted free.
The game will be televised statewide through the Mississippi Public Broadcasting system and will be carried by the following stations: WMAH—Biloxi, WMAE—Booneville, WMAC—Bude, WMAO—Greenwood, WMPN—Jackson, WMAW—Meridian, WMAB—Mississippi State, WMAV—Oxford. Russ Robinson will provide the play-by-play.
From 1988 to 2010, the game was played primarily at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, AL, with the Alabama All-Stars holding a 17-6 margin over the Mississippi All Stars. The game was then moved to Montgomery, Ala, to the Cramton Bowl where it has been played alternating with the Mississippi site since 2011.
Last year, Mississippi defeated Alabama 24-20 for the team’s first ever win in Montgomery, their second straight win in the series, and their third win in the last 4 games.
The series shifted to the month of December in 2007 with Mississippi defeating Alabama 26-7 at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the campus of Troy University. Mississippi defeated Alabama in the first contest played in the Magnolia State in 2015 by a 28-21 score and toppled Alabama 42-7 in the second Mississippi based contest in 2017. Alabama’s longest winning streak was 7 games from 2007 to 2014 while the longest winning streak for the Mississippi squad is 4 games from 1992 to 1995. Overall, Alabama leads the 33-year old series over Mississippi by a 22-10 margin.
The game is co-sponsored by the Mississippi High School Activities Association, the Mississippi Association of Coaches, and the Alabama High School Athletic Association. The game has produced numerous players who have gone on to play college and pro football.
