Two Nanih Waiya baseball players will get one more shot on the high school baseball field.
Nanih Waiya’s Tanner Luke and Coley Taylor will each play in the Crossroads Diamond Club D.M. Howie High School All-star baseball game featuring players from Class 1A and 2A.
Luke and Taylor will play for the South team in the game. Players will report on for the game on Thursday, June 6 at William Care University in Hattiesburg.
The 1A/2A game will be Saturday, June 8 at 11 a.m. and tickets are $10 for the event.
The Warriors finished the season with a 21-3 record, falling short of defending their Class 1A state championship. The Warriors lost to Hamilton in the Class 1A South State semifinals in three games, falling 4-3 in game 3 of the series.
“They have both been really good players for us and are deserving,” Nanih Waiya coach Tyler Rogers said. “They have won a lot of baseball games in their time here. Neither one of them has an offer yet but getting in a game like this gets them in front of some college coaches and you never know. It’s a big honor to be selected. These are the best players in Class 1A and 2A.”
Luke led the team with a .544 batting average as he had eight doubles, three homes runs and 20 RBIs. Luke was second on the team with 28 innings pitched and had a 5-1 record and a 2.25 ERA. He struck out 35 batters and only walked 17.
Taylor hit .390 for the Warriors and had 17 RBIs and three home runs, along with six doubles.
The Warriors had five players make the first-team all-division 5-1A team. Making the first team was Tanner Luke, Coley Taylor, Jake Kight, Shia Moore and Tylan Glass. Making the second team was Cody Clark and Trevor Holdiness. The Warriors won the 5-1A title with an 8-0 record.
