The Ole Miss Rebels and Mississippi State Bulldogs men’s basketball seasons have both unfortunately come to an end. Here is a recap of the two teams seasons.
First up are the Mississippi State Bulldogs. They finished their season 23-11 and were nationally ranked for parts of the season. They were led by Quinndary Weatherspoon who averaged just over 18 points per game. One of the biggest wins of the year was over Marquette University, which was one of the biggest wins in school history. Another big win was over Cincinnati who finished in the top 25 nationally.
Another player with a big impact for the Bulldogs was Lamar Peters, whom averaged over 10 points and five assists per game this season. The Bulldogs finished 4th in the SEC in points per game and second in field goal percentage. The Bulldogs season sadly came to an end in the NCAA tournament as they were upset by No. 12-seed Liberty. The Bulldogs had a great season and hopefully they can continue it to next year.
Next is the Ole Miss Rebels. The Rebels had a surprising breakout season as they were projected last in the SEC before the season. It was their first season with a new head coach, Kermit Davis. The Rebels finished the season 20-13. They also made the NCAA tournament.
The Rebels were led by first team all-SEC guard Breenin Tyree, who averaged 18 points per game. The head coach of the Rebels, Kermit Davis, won the SEC coach of the year award after the complete turnaround in just one year. One of the biggest wins of the season was sweeping the SEC tournament champion Auburn Tigers.
Another huge impact on the Rebels was Terrence Davis who averaged 15.2 points per game. Davis and Tyree were the highest scoring duo in the SEC this year. The Rebels were also second in the SEC in assists this season. The Rebels season came to an end in the NCAA tournament as they lost to 9 seed Oklahoma.
