After weeks of rain, East Webster was finally able to get on the field last week in fast-pitch softball action.
The lack of field time showed as East Webster dropped a pair of contests, falling 5-3 to Ethel and 6-1 to Amory.
“We are just not making the routine plays,” East Webster coach Lee Berryhill said. “Offensively, we are scattering hits but not running the bases. We just keep finding ways to shoot ourselves in the foot. Our pitching has been pretty good. We haven’t given up an earned run yet and lost two games. We just haven’t put it all together yet. It comes down to playing all facets of the game. You have to play well in all facets of the games and so far we haven’t done that.”
Berryhill said he is still looking for the right combination of players.
“We played 12 players against Amory,” Berryhill said. “We are just trying to find the right combination of players that will allow us to make the routine plays and win games. We are doing everything we can right now to try and figure that out. We will keep moving forward and working and see what happens.”
East Webster will return to play this week as they are scheduled to travel to Houston on Tuesday and to Bruce on Thursday. East Webster is scheduled to host Amory on Friday.
“Our field is pretty bad right now,” Berryhill said. “I don’t know if we will be able to get on it this month. I hope we miss this rain on Monday so we can get it dried out and play at home on Friday.”
