East Webster came up two games shy of playing for another state championship in softball this week. The Lady Wolverines’ post-season run came to an end on Monday when they lost a doubleheader at Houston 13-3 and 14-9.
East Webster advanced to the state semifinals on Saturday as they beat Amory in three games. After winning game one of the series 9-1, East Webster lost 11-9 in game two before bouncing back and taking game three 10-9 to win the series.
On Tuesday of last week, East Webster made easy work of Humphrey’s County as they won 28-4 and 29-5.
Against Amory, the Lady Wolverines cruised to a 9-1 win in game 1 of the series. In game 2 of the series, the Lady Wolverines led 9-3 before Amory scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth and held East Webster in the seven to take the one-run win.
In the deciding game three of the series, Katelee Box was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Box helped win the game in the bottom of the eighth as she doubled and eventually scored on a single by Marlie Brewer. Coy Jennings had two singles and reached on an error twice while Emma McKee was 2-for-4. East Webster led 8-4 after five innings before Amory scored one in the sixth and got back-to-back home run-in the sixth to tie the game up.
East Webster 28, Humphrey County 4
The Lady Wolverines needed just 2 1/2 innings to take a run-rule victory over the Cowgirls on Tuesday to finish the series sweep.
East scored 16 in the first and 12 in the second to take the win.
The Lady Wolverines had 22 hits in the contest, drew seven walks and reached on four errors.
Abby Williams was 3-for-3 with a double, a grand slam home run, four runs scored and five RBIs. Emma Jennings was 3-for-4 with a double and four runs scored while Whitney Winter was 3-for-3 with two doubles, four runs scored and three RBIs. Peyton Flora was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs while Marlie Brewer was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Hallie Beth Reed was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Coy Jennings was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Addison Edwards scored three runs and Alyssa McCoy scored two runs. Reagan Plunkett scored two runs and had two RBIs Katelee Box was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Emma McKee also scored two runs for the Lady Wolverines.
East Webster 29, Humphreys County 5
The Lady Wolverines overcame an early deficit and used a big 13-run fifth inning to take a run-rule win in the first game of the series on Tuesday.
East Webster trailed 5-1 after the end of the first inning but scored nine in the second, on win the third, five in the fourth and 13 in the fifth.
East Webster outhit Humphreys 26-11 in the contest. Emma Jennings was 4-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs. Whitney Winter was 4-for-5 with two doubles, four runs scored and two RBIs. Abby Williams was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, two runs scored and four RBIs. Katelee Box was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs. Marlie Brewer was 3-for-5 with three doubles, three runs scored and five RBIS while Hallie Beth Reed was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and four RBIs. Emma McKee was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Coy Jennings was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Peyton Flora walked twice and scored four runs while Reagan Plunkett doubled, walked twice and scored two runs.
