The Louisville High School Lady Wildcats completed regular-season sweeps of both Leake Central and McAdams last week.
Louisville defeated Leake Central 78-52 last Thursday, sending the Lady Wildcats to 2-0 this year against the Lady Gators, as they grabbed a 61-46 victory over Leake Central on Jan. 8.
With the win against Leake Central, Louisville (19-4) capped its season at 7-0 in Region 4-4A contests, which clinched the regular-season region crown for the Lady Wildcats.
“That’s one of the top teams in the district, and any time you can go to their home court and beat them convincingly like we did, that sets the statement for the district tournament because 90 percent, we might see them again in the championship game of the district tournament on their court,” Louisville coach Kenyon Ross said of his team’s win against Leake Central. “We have to continue to shoot the ball well… if we continue to shoot the ball well, I think we’ll be OK.”
The Lady Wildcats played their second-consecutive game in as many days last Friday when they defeated McAdams 72-56. Louisville beat McAdams in their first meeting of the season on Nov. 15, 92-53.
“We just used our inside game a little bit,” Ross said. “We jumped out early with our pressure defense – I think we jumped out to a 12-0 lead and never looked back… We kind of mixed and matched a lot of stuff. In the second half, we were working on some things and the lead was cut – McAdams made a good run – and then we started the fourth quarter and pushed the lead and ended up winning.”
Louisville closes out its regular season Tuesday at New Hope. The Lady Wildcats earned a 62-19 win against the Lady Trojans on Jan. 15.

With this being the last week on Louisville’s (12-9, 3-4 Region 4-4A) regular-season schedule, and the Wildcats will look to conjure momentum from earlier this season during the final week of play before the Region 4-4A tournament.
The Wildcats suffered a 76-70 loss at Leake Central last Tuesday, but were able to close out the week with a 70-60 senior night win against McAdams last Friday. Ross hopes the win sparks a run that will carry over into the district tournament next week.
“Last week was basically full of adversity,” Ross said. “We just had some things go on – right now, we’re not playing the type of basketball we played earlier in district play. With us losing three district ball games in a row, it was a good win against McAdams that will hopefully get our confidence ready for district (tournament) play next week. Right now, based off the standings, we’re currently in third place, but anything can happen (Tuesday) night, based off a couple other games that have to be played.”
The Wildcats conclude the regular season Tuesday at New Hope. Louisville defeated New Hope 57-55 on Jan. 15.
