The Lady Wildcats for the fifth time this season exploded for 80-plus points with their 82-16 win over Nanih Waiya last Tuesday. It was also the fourth time this year that Louisville (8-1) held an opponent to under 25 points.
Louisville also had a little extra motivation to perform well.
“Any time you can get a victory it’s good,” Louisville coach Kenyon Ross said. “It was our county rival, so the kids were a little more motivated. They were playing some of their friends and some of their (old) classmates.”
Lymyia Fifer scored a game-high 15 points, and Jalen Ingram tallied 11 points. Kameron Rogers and Ajira Thompkins chipped in with nine points apiece, while Cearra Hickman and Areyanna Hunter each added eight points.
“If you look at the scorebook, it was kind of balanced,” Ross said. “We played all 15 girls, so a lot of people didn’t play as many minutes as they normally play – that’s why our point total was kind of down for certain players. But some nights, we’re going to need somebody else to step up, and this type of game here helps for the future if we need to call on somebody else.”
The Lady Wildcats led the Lady Warriors 20-10 after the first quarter and 54-14 at halftime.
Bria Tubby led Nanih Waiya (2-9) with four points.
Louisville’s scheduled game against West Point last Friday was canceled.
Louisville was set to host Choctaw County on Tuesday night.
BOYS
The Wildcats picked up their second consecutive win and their third victory of the season last Tuesday with a 70-32 victory over Nanih Waiya.
After beginning the year with a depleted bench due to the absence of Wildcat players who were members of Louisville’s football team, Ross had 11 of his players log points in the win.
Ross spoke about the advantages of playing with a full roster.
“It helps with depth,” Ross said. “I can look down the bench and have a solution for if someone fouls out or if someone gets tired, and it helps a lot. When I look down the bench now, I look at players who have played for me for two or three years. That’s a plus when you can have experience coming off your bench, as well as starting.”
Tyrell Thames finished with a game-high 19 points, and Shemar Eiland poured in 11 points. Tyvorious Cooper ended with eight points and Vasedrick Culberson tallied seven points.
Nanih Waiya’s (3-8) Ethan Dailey and Hagan Halfacre scored six points apiece.
