Fresh off its Region 4-4A district tournament championship, Louisville (24-4) opened its MHSAA Class 4A run with back-to-back 70-point outings to surge into the third round of the playoffs.
The Lady Wildcats led Greenwood by 21 points at halftime en route to a 73-39 victory in last Monday’s 4A playoff opener.
The Lady Wildcats followed that up with a hard fought 57-55 win over Senatobia on Monday and earned a trip to the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson for the MHSAA Class 4A State Tournament semifinals, where they will take on Lanier at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
More information on the win over Senatobia as the game with Lanier will be in next week's paper.
Louisville darted out to a 26-2 lead at the end of the first quarter to dictate a game flow it’d maintain for the duration.
Areyanna Hunter posted a game-high 18 points, Iitasha Paty scored 14 points, all of which she tallied in the first quarter. Jalen Ingram and Kiersten Ball each contributed 8 points.
Louisville followed its dominant postseason opener by dispatching Amory 78-48 in the Lady Wildcats second-round playoff contest last Friday.
Hunter erupted for a game-high 23 points to go with 10 assists and four rebounds. Lymia Fifer and Ball pitched in with 12. Fifer added seven assists and three blocks, while Ball added five rebounds.
“The first night we came out – Monday against Greenwood – I think we came out a little flat,” Ross said. “But I think the second night, the girls understood the moment at hand. We didn’t play our best that Monday night, even though we won by the amount that we won by. The second night, I think the girls settled down a little bit and played hard and we came through with a victory against a good Amory team.”
