The Nanih Waiya Lady Warriors picked up their first win of the season last week and it was in important one.
The Lady Warriors took a 15-9 win over rival Noxapater for their first win. They also dropped a 9-8 decision over French Camp.
The Lady Warriors will return to play on Tuesday as they host Ethel and will finish the week as they host Morton on Friday.
Noxapater’s other scheduled games against Ethel and Louisville were cancelled. The Lady Tigers will return to action on Tuesday, March 19 as they host Ray Brooks. On Thursday, Noxapater will travel to French Camp and will play at Columbus on Friday. On Saturday, March 23, the Lady Tigers will play in the Sebastopol Tournament as they play Scott Central at 11:40 a.m. and Leake Central at 5 p.m.
Nanih Waiya 15, Noxapater 9
The Lady Warriors started fast and finished strong to take a six-run win over the Lady Tigers on Monday.
Nanih Waiya led 5-2 at the end of the first inning and 6-4 at the end of the third. Nanih Waiya then scored one n the fourth and sixth, four in the fifth and three in the seventh. Noxapater scored two in the fifth and sixth and one in the seventh for the final.
Nanih Waiya had 14 hits in the contest, led by Dallyn Nance who was 4-for-4 with three stolen bases and five runs scored. Abby Lynch was 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs scored and two RBIs. Morgan Mills was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs while Carlee Presley was 2-for-2 two stolen bases. Jalia Cotton had a double, scored twice and drove in two runs while Hanna Higginbotham and Ambria Stokes each scored two runs.
Mills pitched all seven innings for the Lady Warriors and gave up nine runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out eight.
Noxapater had 10 hits in the contest with only one multiple hitter as Madison Riggs went 2-for-5. Kaitlyn Sanborn had a double and scored two runs. Caroline Swindle and Katelyn Barnett each had RBI singles in the game while Lexi Thomas, Morgan Duran and Addy Webb each singled and scored a run.
Lexi Thomas pitched all seven innings for Noxapater and gave up 15 runs on 14 hits and two walks while striking out six.
French Camp 9, Nanih Waiya 8
The Lady Warriors mounted a late comeback but fell short against the Lady Panthers on Thursday.
French Camp scored two in the first and led 3-1 after three innings. Nanih Waiya scored one in the fourth before French Camp scored four runs to take a 7-2 lead. Nanih Waiya then scored three in the fifth and two in the sixth to take an 8-7 lead. French Camp then scored two in the bottom of the frame to take the win.
Each team had eight hits but Nanih Waiya committed five errors and gave up seven unearned runs. Jalia Cotton led the Lady Warriors at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Hanna Higginbotham had a double, scored two runs and stole three bases. Dallyn Nance singled, stole two bases, had an RBI and scored a run. Kaylee Gregory and Jaylee Stokes each singled and scored a run while Morgan Mills singled and drove in two runs.
Gregory pitched the first three innings for the Lady Warriors and gave up seven runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four. Mills pitched the last three innings, giving up two unearned runs on two hits while striking out five.
