Nanih Waiya’s fast-pitch softball team finally earned its first victory of the 2018 season last week.
But the Lady Warriors didn’t stop there, also picking up their second win. And their third. And their fourth.
Nanih Waiya reeled off four straight wins before dropping a pair of close contests Saturday in the Sebastopol Tournament. The busy week started with a 15-4, 13-0 sweep of visiting Ray Brooks on Tuesday and continued with a 12-2 win over French Camp Academy Thursday. After whipping Louisville 17-7 on Friday, Nanih Waiya lost 6-1 and 4-3 decisions to Lake and Sebastopol in tournament action Saturday.
The Lady Warriors entered this week with a 4-7 overall record and are scheduled to host Ethel Thursday.
Next week, Nanih Waiya is slated to go to Noxapater on Tuesday (April 3) and visit Ray Brooks on Thursday (April 5).
Last Monday, Nanih Waiya used an eight-run rally in the third inning to put away Ray Brooks in Game 1 of a twinbill.
Kaylee Gregory belted a pair of doubles, scored three times and drove in three runs and Morgan Mills was 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs to lead Nanih Waiya’s seven-hit attack.
Abby Lynch singled, drove in three and scored twice; Hanna Higginbotham singled, scored and drove in one; Hope Thames singled and scored; Dallyn Nance scored three times and drove in two; Jalia Cotton scored twice and drove in one; Ashley Higginbotham had one RBI; and Hailey Simpson scored once.
Thames, Nance, Mills and Gregory threw one inning each in the circle, combining to allow three hits and three earned runs while striking out seven.
In the second game, Thames homered, doubled, scored three runs and drove in two and Nanih Waiya scored at least four times in each of the first three innings.
Gregory had two hits and three runs and Mallory Whittle and Jaylee Stokes both singled and drove in two runs. Mills singled, scored twice and had an RBI; Hanna Higginbotham singled and scored twice; Ashley Higginbotham singled and drove in two runs; Nance scored twice; and Cotton and Simpson both had RBIs.
Gregory, Thames and Nance threw one inning each, striking out four and allowing two hits and no runs.
Nanih Waiya scored three times in the bottom of the third inning to snap a 2-2 tie against FCA Thursday, then scored the next seven runs.
Nance singled, doubled and scored twice and Mills had two hits, two RBIs and a run. Cotton singled, scored and drove in two and Ashley Higginbotham singled, scored twice and drove in one.
Thames scored twice and had two RBIs; Lynch scored twice; Hanna Higginbotham scored and drove in one; and Stokes scored.
Nance was the winning pitcher with four innings in relief of Thames, and they combined to allow two hits and one earned run with 13 strikeouts.
Nanih Waiya trailed Louisville 6-5 after three innings, but scored three times in the fourth to take the lead, got three more in the fifth and put it away with a six-run rally in the sixth.
Nance homered twice and finished with five RBIs and three runs scored while Cotton had two hits and four runs scored.
Thames singled, scored and drove in one; Mills singled and scored twice; Gregory singled and had an RBI; Whittle singled, scored and had one RBI; Ashley Higginbotham scored three times; Lynch scored once; and Hanna Higginbotham scored once.
Gregory threw 3.1 innings and got the win, with Mills and Nance finishing in the circle.
In their first game in the Sebastopol Tournament Saturday, the Lady Warriors had a four-game winning streak snapped when Lake scored four times in the top of the third inning to pull away.
Mills had two hits, Nance singled and drove in one and Gregory and Lynch both had hits for Nanih Waiya. Thames scored the only run.
Nance was the losing pitcher, with Mills finishing.
Against Sebastopol, the Lady Warriors fell behind 4-0 and ran out of time with a late rally.
Thames singled, doubled, scored and had an RBI and Cotton also had two hits for Nanih Waiya. Hanna Higginbotham doubled, scored and drove in one; Ashley Higginbotham singled; Gregory drove in one; and Lynch scored.
Thames was the losing pitcher, with Gregory finishing up.
