Triumph finally came in district play for the Winston Academy Lady Patriots as they split against Heritage Academy and Lamar School this week.
After losing earlier in the year against Heritage at Columbus, the Lady Patriots of Winston got their revenge last Tuesday night. It will always be a battle win WA goes up against former coach Moe Reed and this one was no different. It was a defensive standoff to say the least with neither team giving in and WA overcame a seven-point deficit to win a 26-20 ball game.
The homestanding Lady Patriots didn’t score a point in the first quarter as they fell behind 7-0, but they took a 10-9 lead into halftime as they returned the favor and gave up just two points in the second frame. They would hold a slim lead the rest of the way to come out with the first district win of the season.
Hailey Bradford and Micha Carr had seven points each as offense was at a premium.
The roles were reversed on Friday as they tried to get another big win at Lamar. After trailing 27-16 through three quarters, the Lady Patriots scored more points in the final quarter than they had all game coming in with a 17-point barrage but it wasn’t enough as they lost 39-33.
Carr score 10 of her 15 points in that final run in the fourth to help her team have a chance.
The Lady Patriots are now 9-10 on the year with a 1-6 district record and will play at Starkville Academy on Tuesday night, at Kemper on Thursday night and at home against East Rankin on Friday.
