Following a split of two games against Newton County Academy in the first week of the season, Winston Academy pulled off three straight fast-pitch softball wins over the course of last week.
Winston beat Pillow Academy 8-1 at home, Winona Christian 11-3 on the road and Central Holmes Christian at the Canton Tournament on Saturday 5-3.
The Lady Patriots (4-1) are off to a great start thanks in large part to eighth grader Anna Grace Whitehead. The ace pitcher is 4-0 with a 2.02 earned run average in 27.2 innings, giving up just eight earned runs, striking out 35 batters, and walking 13. Her work at the plate has been even more impressive with a .750 batting average garnering a team-high 12 hits, collecting seven RBIs and driving five of the team’s 13 doubles.
Fellow eighth graders Mayson Smith (.600), Nat Eaves (.583), and Morgan Woods are also leading the way offensively.
WA was set to continue its season with a game against district opponent Heritage Academy on Tuesday at Columbus. They also play at Pillow Academy on Thursday and play Tri-County on Saturday.
