The French Camp slow-pitch softball team went 2-1 last week with a doubleheader sweep of Velma Jackson and an extra inning loss to Ethel.
The Lady Panthers had no trouble against Velma Jackson with 18-0 and 10-2 victories. Molly Sims and Haleigh Outlaw each homered in the first game. Sims, Brianna Grice and Abby Leathers had three hits each, Grice scored three times and Sims had three RBIs. Maci Grice pitched two hitless innings with five strikeouts.
In the second game, Velma Jackson scored two runs in the first inning, but French Camp responded with 10 in the second. Maci Grice had two hits, scored two runs and drove in one. Leathers and Cassie Taylor each had two RBIs.
French Camp jumped out to a 5-0 lead against Ethel with five runs in the first. Sims had the big hit, a 2-run triple. But the Lady Panthers were held scoreless the rest of the way despite totaling 15 hits.
Ethel chipped away at the lead with one run in the second, three in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game, then pushed across the winning run in the eighth. Madison Odom reached second on an error and scored on a single by Jaidyn Sims.
Molly Sims continued her strong hitting for French Camp with a single, double and triple, two RBIs and one run scored. Jillian Skidmore and Nevaeh Rodriguerz had two hits each,
Ethel had 16 hits, led by Shelby Schuster and Breanna Blaine with three each.
Velma Jackson and Ethel are MHSAA Class I, Region 5 games for French Camp. The Lady Panthers played Philadelphia Tuesday and will play Union Thursday in region games.
