French Camp dropped its season-opening softball game to Sebastopol 7-1 despite a strong pitching performance by sophomore Aubrey Burrell.
Burrell relieved Brianna Grice in the second inning and allowed one run on two hits, with six strikeouts and no walk, over five innings. She came in in a tight spot,” said coach Todd Chesser. “She got us out of that inning.”
French Camp tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first when Marley Sims doubled, stole third and scored on a ground out by Grice. Grice, Cassie Taylor and Abby Leathers had singles and Grice drew a walk.
Both teams had four hits, but Sebastopol benefited from French Camp errors to score seven unearned runs.
French Camp is scheduled to play at East Webster Friday at Ethel Saturday Saturday. Following Spring Break, the Lady Panthers begin Region 5-1A play March 19 with a game at Nanih Waiya.
