Eupora’s season-opening 11-game win streak was snapped by Ethel last week.
After beating Calhoun City 16-5 to improve to 11-0 on the season, Ethel handed the Lady Eagles their first loss with a 9-4 setback.
“We had just come off two really big division wins against a tough Calhoun City team,” Eupora coach Amir Hunt said. “We had just played them the night before the Ethel game, so I decided to give our pitcher and catcher a rest from their usual roles defensively. Also, we were missing our leadoff hitter that night due to the passing of a close family friend. We didn't hit the ball well enough to win nor did we play defense well enough. To beat a team like Ethel, we've got to be better in all aspects of the game. Like Coach Dillinger tell the girls, though, ‘we're 3-0 where it matters.’ I fully expect to come back and have a good day of practice Monday before we host Leflore County Tuesday and Winona Thursday.”
Eupora, now 11-1 on the season, were to host Leflore County on Tuesday for a Division 2-2A doubleheader. The Lady Eagles will host Winona on Thursday and take on Noxapater on Friday in a non-division contest.
