The Choctaw County softball team split two games last week, losing to Philadelphia 12-2 and defeating Louisville 10-0.
The Lady Chargers lost more than a game against Philadelphia. Ace pitcher Lizzie Thomas suffered a mild concussion when hit in the head by a line drive come backer. She will be sidelined indefinitely, according to her coach and father, Lance Thomas. “She won't play this week,” he said.
Choctaw County is 7-3 overall and leads Region 3-3A with a 5-0 record. The top three teams from the region will advance to the MHSAA 3A layoffs beginning April 20. First place draws an opening round bye. Second and third will play best-of-three series against teams from Region 2-3A.
Choctaw County had a doubleheader scheduled with Ruleville Central Monday. The Lady Chargers have home games Friday against Philadelphia, Monday with Charleston and Tuesday against Starkville.
