The Choctaw County softball team opened an MHSAA 3A playoff series at Kossuth Tuesday. Game two in the best-of-three series will be played at Choctaw County Thursday, with the third game, if necessary to follow.
Choctaw County earned an opening round bye in the playoffs as a result of winning 3-3A. Kossuth, runner-up in 1-3A, defeated Hatley 9-4 in the decisive game of an opening round series.
The Lady Chargers entered the playoffs with a 10-6 record, including 8-0 in 3-3A.
Choctaw County concluded the regular season last week with losses to Starkville 10-4 and
Ethel 12-2. The Lady Chargers had four hits against Starkville. Ayana Taylor had a three-run homer, Laiana Cork tripled and Shakeria Smith and Lizzie Thomas singled. Freshman Karlie Brooks had a single, double and three RBIs for Starkville.
Starkville broke the game open with six runs in the sixth to take a 10-0 lead.
Allison Brown had two hits, Thomas and Cork one each in the Ethel game.
