The Choctaw County girls basketball season ended Monday with a 60-36 loss to homestanding Senatobia in the opening round of the MHSAA 3A tournament. Senatobia, Region 2-3A regular season and tournament champion, is the state’s second ranked 3A team according to the website MaxPreps.
La’Genesis Johnson scored 13 points for Choctaw County and Ty’Liyah Alston had 10.
The Lady Chargers entered the playoffs as the fourth seed from Region 4-3A after losses to Aberdeen 57-37 and Noxubee County 60-45 in last week’s region tournament. Johnson was Choctaw County’s high scorer in both games with 20 points against Aberdeen and 23 in the Noxubee County game.
“Aberdeen made their open shots and we had trouble getting ours to fall,” said coach Mandy Jewell. It was the same story in the Noxubee game. “We just couldn’t score.”
