The French Camp girls basketball team shot a blistering 72 percent from the floor (34-47) including four of six on 3-point shots, in a 75-24 win over Grace Christian.
It was the Lady Panthers best shooting game of the season according to coach Priscilla Anderson. Madison Klein made 10 of 11 shots, including all four from behind the arc, while equaling Grace Christian’s team total with a game high 24 points.
Jasmine Bonty had 10 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Taylor Benoist had her best game of the season off the bench, connecting on all five shots for 10 points.
The Lady Panthers also shot well against McAdams – 18 of 30 for 60 percent – but were defeated 65-45. Madison Klein had a season high 30 points on 12 of 17 shooting. Bonty had eight points and eight rebounds.
Jakyra Young scored 34 points and grabbed nine rebounds for McAdams.
McAdams jumped out to a 26-14 lead after one quarter. “We played hard after we got down,” Anderson said.
BOYS
The Panthers rebounded from a loss in the team’s first game at the Grace Christian Invitational with victories over North New Summit of Greenwood 52-27 and Starkville Christian 61-27.
French Camp jumped out to a 20-2 lead after one quarter against North New Summit and breezed to the win. Sophomore Everett Holland and freshman Ethan Chesser led balance scoring with eight points each.
The Panthers scored 28 first quarter points in the Starkville Christian game. Jacob Lewis scored 12 points and Calvin Johnson contributed 11.
The Panthers opened the tournament with a 43-33 loss to the host team, which led 26-4 at the half. Holland had a game-high 15 points for French Camp.
Chesser and sophomore Coleman McKenzie were named to the 10-member all tournament team. “They played really hard and did the things I asked them to do,” said coach Robert Leathers.
Diamond Grove won the six-team tournament with a victory over Meridian Flyers in the championship game.
In regular season games, the Panthers were defeated by Grace Christian 44-37 and McAdams 84-35.
An 18-point third quarter gave French Camp a 30-24 lead against Grace Christian, but the Panthers were outscored 20-7 during the final period. Clayton Leathers led French Camp with 12 points. Zach Broyles scored a game-high 17 points for Grace Christian, including 10 in the fourth quarter.
French Camp trailed McAdams 54-16 at the half. Holland led the Panthers with 17 points. Querrion Gadson had 24 points and T’Calvan Bolton 21 for McAdams.
The Panthers and Lady Panthers have a road game Friday with Ethel and a home came Saturday with Winona Christian.
